Stray, get found

Stray, get found, a collaboration between Jenny Santos and Ryan Ringer, takes as its point of departure Joseph Campell’s conception of the hero’s journey, aka the monomyth, as outlined in his book The Hero with a Thousand Faces. In the hero’s journey, a hero receives an internal or external call to adventure and sets out from the known world into an unknown world – a realm of supernatural wonder. If the hero accepts the call, he or she faces a series of challenges on the journey, alone or with assistance. If the hero successfully completes the journey, he or she receives a great boon, which may be used to improve the known world.

In the context of our project, the hero is anyone who answers our call to adventure. The known world is normality and our conventional views and ways of acting in daily life. The unknown world – the realm of supernatural wonder – is all the transgressive energies locked-up within the spectacle of daily life: creativity, poetry, spontaneity. It is the core of lived experience; the moment of self-realization.

On Saturday, October 8, and Sunday, October 9, from 12 – 4pm each day, along 14th Street, between Seventh and Eighth Avenues, look for our street posters. Stray, get found.
